Onboarding Steps
Onboarding Steps for the Karmic Circles app

Onboarding Steps

Finish the onboarding steps before you set your first family meeting. You want to be comfortable with the app so you are focused on the kids and how they could be earning their way to amazing rewards.  Step 1 - ADD USERS: When you create the circle, your user is already created as an admin. You can add another adult as an admin, if needed. We recommend choosing an avatar or a picture to personalize the app. You should add a child or all your children at this time. You can also add children later. Entering their age and gender will help the app propose an appropriate avatar and recommend age appropriate deeds/ rewards we see commonly being used (feature coming soon).  Note: if you do not want to participate in the circle and have your deeds and rewards tracked, you can be the admin but stop participating in the circle by de-selecting “Also participate in the circle”. This can be useful to set up an account for a babysitter or…

Simple Tips for the First Family Meeting

First Family Meeting

Simple Tips for the First Family Meeting First Family Meeting Tips  Tip 1: Start the meeting right after dinner preferably with some dessert :)  A family meeting is exactly that- time to sit down with everyone in the family. Talk to the kids (and adults) that the family will be working on responsibility through an app (a system) to track and earn points. Explain the concept of deeds/ tasks and rewards. This is where house/ family rules come in and if you don’t have any yet, you can discuss and decide on some. Tip 2:  Ease into the system. You can start out with just one or two things that your kids really would like to do, but that should ideally be limited (like screen time or dessert).  The more they are attached to the reward, the more motivated they will be to complete deeds to earn the points. Also, start with 2 or 3 deeds that will earn them enough points to be able to redeem rewards that they want. …

FaBOOlous Halloween Habits
Too much of a good thing is not necessarily good. What to do when your kids have too many sweets from festivals

FaBOOlous Halloween Habits

The Great Pumpkin Candy Exchange School is now in full swing and just as you were coming up for a few breaths, the fall festival season kicked into gear. It's a busy time for most with festivals like Diwali, Halloween, and Dia de Los Muertos to name just a few. Candy treats, dessert, and sweets abound from now through the end of the year. How do you maintain a healthy but still fun and festive mode? Well, Karmic Circles has a few ideas for you. The Great Pumpkin Candy Exchange If you haven't heard of this one, it's one your kids will definitely enjoy and not miss the candy too much either. Before everyone is tucked away for the night, we like to have the kids go through the candy and select their favorites. They put the remaining ones into a bucket for The Great Pumpkin. In the morning, their candy is gone and replaced with a small gift. Simple gifts like glow sticks, an arts and crafts kit, Legos, or…

Helping families organize and track, one user at a time

Founding a start-up is an intense roller coaster ride. Running a start-up along with your regular life is that intense roller coaster ride on steroids. So what drives people to take on something like this? It's the passion you have for making your ideas work ... and the satisfaction when a user or a customer writes these words to you: We are so excited to use Karmic in our family. We have used many different apps to try to organize our family life. We use this app as a productivity, habit tracking, to-do app. We are a family of 5, with three children 4 and under. My husband works full time and I am a stay at home mom, together we also run a business from home. So to say that we have many plates we are trying to keep spinning is an understatement. In our family we have budgeted a certain amount into our monthly budget that we give ourselves for an allowance. Any personal purchases we make come out of…

How my son got a real life lesson on debt and bankruptcy

With a shocked look, my 12 year old said, “What? This will put my score at - 45 points. It means I won’t get any electronics, shows or dessert for over a week.” It all started when we decided, as a family, to use the ‘Karmic Circles’ app at home.  We drafted and accepted, in a family meeting, a framework of points for chores, behaviors and health actions for each family member. We started small but kept adding more deeds to track when we realized (and agreed) that a new rule was called for after an incident. Typically, a TV show or a  20 mins. electronics session costs each of us 3 points. However, soon after we started using the app, we negotiated an extra 5 point penalty for each show/ electronics session that was sneaked in without permission. Of course, the day we set this rule, my son was feeling good since all new rules were only valid from the next day and so he wasn't going to be penalized…
